It’s remarkable how much this film contributes not only to what’s become the longest-running movie franchise ever, but also to its genre as a whole. It's easy to overlook how vital the initial installment can be, and how crucial it was that Sean Connery embody the role perfectly—the women he shared scenes with, the action sequences, the music, the opening credits, everything really had to align. While Daniel Craig has certainly managed to engage viewers in recent years, his portrayal only highlighted Connery’s appeal by what it lacked; without that humor and charm, it underscored why Connery (who already starred in five Bond films before Craig even existed) was so necessary. I watched my copy on Blu-ray from the complete James Bond collection, and it didn't feel old or diminished at all. I hope Sir Sean Connery continues to live a long life—the pleasure his work has brought me over the years is beyond measure! =)
