I wouldn’t recommend this film and certainly won’t be revisiting it. While I don’t typically care for Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s performances, I had hoped Will Ferrell would offer some comedic relief. It shares a certain quality with "Everything Must Go," though now the spouse and children are involved in actively making things worse. I can see that the movie achieves its goal of getting viewers to connect with the characters' difficulties and distress; however, it didn’t ultimately leave a strong impression on me. Maybe this is geared toward a niche group—families struggling to maintain their bonds—but it comes across more like someone using filmmaking as a way to process personal pain related to a difficult experience.
