Given the public drama and negative reviews, it's worth asking whether _Don’t Worry Darling_ is truly as awful as people claim. I will say that while there are definitely problems with the story—like when plot points get dropped or characters feel underdeveloped—there were also elements that made watching it enjoyable. Olivia Wilde’s direction was surprisingly effective. It felt like she intentionally crafted a romanticized vision of the 1950s, but subtly hinted at something unsettling lurking just beneath the surface. It's unfortunate those hints didn’t pay off with a more substantial explanation later on. The performances were uneven. Florence Pugh and Chris Pine really elevated the film. Pugh is remarkable; she conveys such complicated feelings while maintaining an outward composure, and it's easy to connect with her character and want her to succeed. Chris Pine was genuinely menacing in his role—I don’t often see him as a villain, and he does a great job. His delivery reminded me of James Spader in _Avengers: Age of Ultron_, which is high praise. He didn't get much screen time or depth for his character, but he made the most of it. Olivia Wilde was adequate; nothing particularly stood out, neither good nor bad. Harry Styles’ performance is difficult to assess. I wouldn’t say he did a poor job, but sharing the screen with Pugh often highlights his shortcomings and makes him seem less impactful.
