I must admit, this film turned out to be surprisingly good—though I wouldn’t go so far as to call it truly excellent. Cliff Robertson portrays "Ballard," a greedy man whose wife, "Dominique," becomes the target of his deadly intentions. After numerous failed attempts on her life, she ultimately resolves to end him herself. However, once she finds herself beyond the realm of the living, she decides he shouldn't be allowed to inherit her wealth and returns to relentlessly haunt him! There’s a strong supporting cast—Dame Flora Robson, Judy Gleeson, Ron Moody, and Jenny Agutter—who all perform admirably to maintain the film's atmosphere. It’s likely that the enjoyment comes from rooting for the vengeful ghost because "Ballard" is so unlikeable; his punishment feels entirely justified. Simmons doesn’t seem stretched by either the role or the writing, and the prominent musical score also prevents the performances from shining as much as they could, but it's still a worthwhile production based on familiar narratives. It's pleasing to see these Hollywood veterans remaining relevant even as the 1980s and their technological advancements arrive, making it worth a viewing.
