This movie, *Dolemite Is My Name*, really works well. The first portion, roughly the initial half-hour to forty minutes, wasn't quite as remarkable, though it was still enjoyable enough. But what follows—the next sixty to eighty minutes—is excellent; I found it very entertaining. Eddie Murphy is a delight to watch, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph has a supporting role. Wesley Snipes also provides some amusement. I am now interested in seeing the original *Dolemite* film sometime, curious about how it holds up as a movie on its own merits. This 2019 production depicts the creation of that 1975 film in an enjoyable way. The rhythm is spot-on and the jokes are genuinely funny. It’s definitely worth seeing.
