While "Dog" might not break any new ground or present unexpected twists, it delivers a sweet and straightforward narrative that should appeal to audiences, thanks to its sincerity and heartfelt moments. Considering this is the first time Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin have directed, it's notable how they avoided sensationalism or complex camera work, which contributed to the story’s feeling of realism. There were a couple of strange plot elements here and there, but the scenes between Briggs and Lulu are genuinely moving and likely to elicit smiles, laughter, and perhaps even some tears—Thomas Newman’s wonderful music is sure to bring on those feelings. I would absolutely suggest this film to anyone who thinks of their animal companion as family. Rating: B-
