I have to admit, I was really looking forward to this film from the moment it was announced—my interest in magic and the supernatural is strong, and Doctor Strange has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters. PLOT: The story itself isn’t overly complicated; it follows a brilliant surgeon as his career collapses and he's left physically disabled after an accident. Losing everything trying to repair his hands, he discovers rumors of a mysterious healer in Kamar-Taj. With very little money left, he travels to Nepal hoping to find this place, which then introduces him to a completely new world. He finds himself with a natural talent for what’s called "The Mystic Arts." His training and development seem rapid, but he's quickly thrown into conflict with his first major enemy, Kaecilius. He narrowly escapes death thanks to his former fiancée, Dr. Christine Palmer (who performs surgery on him), and returns to the Sanctum Sanctorum. He attempts to stop Kaecilius but needs rescuing again by his teacher, who dies leaving Strange with a significant lesson. To finally defeat these zealots, he makes a deal, trapping their leader in an endless time loop if he doesn’t call off his followers and restore order. Ultimately, his former friend and mentor, Mordo, embarks on a journey of self-discovery that leads him to become a sorcerer murderer. Characters: 1) Dr. Stephen Strange: Benedict Cumberbatch delivers an outstanding performance and truly embodies the character. I appreciated seeing his transformation and growth as he realizes how small he is within a vast multiverse. He’s quite skilled with magic, and I hope to see him develop even faster into the Sorcerer Supreme. 2) The Ancient One: My favorite character in the film. She's a wise mentor, delivers memorable lines, has impressive battle sequences, striking entrances, and an incredible costume. What stood out was her awareness that achieving greater goals sometimes requires crossing ethical boundaries—actions she teaches against and isn’t proud of. 3) Kaecilius: A tragic figure whose love led him to Kamar-Taj where he rose to the level of master. Disillusioned with The Ancient One and still grieving a loss, he attempts to halt time so that his new mentor, Dormammu, can conquer our world. Mads Mikkelsen was fantastic in the role; his philosophy about time being an enemy of humanity and people’s desire for eternity is compelling and thought-provoking. It's unfortunate that he ultimately lost himself. 4) Karl Mordo: Another dedicated student who rarely questions or challenges, deeply valuing trust and struggling with bending rules. He was quite disappointing and dull; his only interesting development was becoming a villain. 5) Wong: A serviceable but underutilized character, likely to appear more prominently in future films as Strange’s confidant. Magic: We are shown magic as an energy drawn from different dimensions to create what's needed and cast spells—a fascinating approach to such an ambiguous yet intriguing subject. Post-Credit Scenes: 1) Thor scene: Set in 2017, it features Thor seeking Doctor Strange’s assistance to find his father, who is trapped on Earth. Strange agrees with the condition that they return to their own realm once reunited. 2) Mordo scene: He begins a mission to eliminate all sorcerers from Earth. Overall: It's a solid film featuring impressive special effects and strong acting. Definitely worth seeing.
