In honor of my mother's 75th birthday and her enduring 46-year marriage to my father, who passed away in 2011—and acknowledging her steadfastness in remaining single afterward—I chose to view 'Divorce Italian Style'. I found it very funny and quite entertaining. It absolutely earned the Academy Award for Best Screenplay, along with its nominations that year for Marcello Mastroianni as Best Actor and Pietro Germi for Best Director. Germi often seems overlooked when people discuss important Italian filmmakers of that era. That shouldn't be the case. Although this is the only film of his I’ve seen so far, he’s a true genius—both in writing the script for this comedy and directing it. You should really watch it!
