Just short of his eighteenth birthday, a young man living in the suburbs (played by Shia LaBeouf) is placed on house arrest, but things become more interesting when an appealing girl moves into the neighboring property (Sarah Roemer). He begins to wonder if one of his neighbors could be a well-known serial killer (David Morse). Carrie-Anne Moss portrays his mother. "Disturbia," released in 2007, borrows its premise from Hitchcock’s “Rear Window,” and films that followed suit like "Fright Night" and "Abominable." LaBeouf's popularity was on the rise when this film came out, and he delivers a solid performance as the typical teenage lead. Roemer's career was also gaining momentum at the time, though it didn’t really develop into anything substantial. The movie works well enough as a psychological thriller with a simple setting reminiscent of “Rear Window” or “What Lies Beneath,” but ultimately doesn’t rise above that level and is the weakest of those films. It feels surprisingly lifeless. However, if you're drawn to the actors involved, it might be worth watching. The film has a running time of 1 hour and 44 minutes and was filmed in Whittier, which is part of Greater Los Angeles. GRADE: C+
