It’s been fifteen years since audiences were initially introduced to "Giselle" (Amy Adams) and company, and this new installment reveals a certain weariness has crept into their previously perfect world. As they say, boredom leads to trouble, and an unintentional request kicks off a chain of events that sends Giselle, her husband “Robert” (Patrick Dempsey), and their daughter on a frantic mission to avert catastrophe before the midnight hour. Unfortunately, this film lacks the charm and appeal of its 2007 predecessor. While it's reasonable not to anticipate significant peril in the plot, the story feels overly manufactured, and the songs are disappointingly forgettable—appearing to replace lackluster dialogue and underdeveloped characters rather than inspiring sing-alongs. The movie is visually pleasing, and it’s interesting to see the original cast back together after so long, but ultimately it's not much more than a made-for-TV film that might hold the attention of children for about an hour during its extended two-hour runtime; beyond that, I suspect their interest will wane. It’s regrettable—another sequel that wasn’t truly necessary.
