This low-budget monster movie, "Dinosaurus!" (released in 1960 but filmed in 1959), feels like a relic of the fifties, and it’s not entirely without charm—it had a similar appeal to “Jurassic Park” back when it was made, relying on stop-motion effects combined with miniatures and puppets for its dinosaur close-ups. The plot is straightforward: during harbor construction on a Caribbean island involving explosives, workers discover frozen dinosaurs and a caveman who are later revived by a storm and proceed to cause chaos among the locals. Ward Ramsey takes on the role of the construction foreman, alongside Kristina Hanson as his girlfriend. Fred Engelberg portrays the harsh island administrator. The entertainment value is undeniable, with some genuinely funny scenes involving the Neanderthal character, Gregg Martell. Kristina Hanson looks great, particularly in her initial appearance wearing a swimsuit, but the film could have given her more to do beyond simply appearing in a long dress—her role feels underdeveloped compared to something like Beth Rogan's performance in "Mysterious Island," which came out the following year. Interestingly, one particular shot of the Tyrannosaurus was later reused in a “Gilligan’s Island” episode depicting Gilligan’s prehistoric dream sequence. The movie clocks in at 1 hour and 23 minutes and was filmed on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It earns a grade of B.
