Someone wanting to create a guide on how to cause maximum disruption and damage within a secure location couldn’t find a better consultant than Bruce Willis. In this exciting action film, he plays "Lt. John McClane," who gets caught up in an event where the entire airport is commandeered—not just a plane—all so a general involved with drugs can avoid legal consequences, aided by some elite military personnel operating outside the law. Willis brings considerable charm to the role and must convince those in positions of power and other officers about the severity of the situation before a flight carrying his wife (which has its own amusing side story) exhausts its fuel supply. The script occasionally delivers sharp lines, and Tom Bower is adequate as "Marvin," the janitor who gets drawn into events. It's perhaps missing a sense of dread; Willis’ characterization might simply be too relaxed—that smile and that look in his eye. Nevertheless, it remains an action-packed film with numerous explosions and close calls to entertain viewers for a couple of hours within the realm of uncomplicated entertainment. While not as strong as the initial installment, it doesn't offer much more than that.
