The movie centers around James Bond’s pursuit of diamond smugglers. Predictably, this investigation leads to an evil villain. It incorporates many familiar aspects of a Bond film: plenty of action sequences that hardly let up, attractive locations—though they aren't quite as impressive as those in the truly outstanding Bond movies—and some clever dialogue. However, something is missing, likely because of the influence of the women’s liberation movement at the time; namely, the traditionally beautiful women. There's one exceptionally attractive woman who meets an untimely end seemingly to satisfy feminist sensibilities. The director appears to have been trying to demonstrate his commitment to the women’s lib agenda by portraying Jill St. John in a way that aligns with those ideals. A boy even asks an older man if Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) is his mother—a rather awkward moment. Another significant issue involves a character intended to be appealing but falls short. The kidnapped businessman isn't remotely likeable, which proves to be a considerable flaw. The film’s strongest point is a pair of amusing assassins with a dark sense of humor. Their intentionally corny jokes managed to entertain me somewhat. It's not the finest installment in the Bond franchise, but it's also not among the worst, especially considering how much negativity from Hollywood would later seep into the series.
