"Devils Stay" had the potential to be something greater, but it also felt like it would benefit from being shorter. To begin, it's fair to say this is an enjoyable movie to watch. It’s a South Korean reimagining of "The Exorcist" in several ways, and what it achieves, it does effectively. The narrative itself is both intelligently written and unsettlingly unique. This quality is enhanced by the strong acting from everyone involved, along with cinematography that creates a suitably somber and desolate atmosphere. However, the film’s length proves to be an issue; it runs on too long. This stems from a habit of explaining things excessively and revisiting plot points. As a consequence, while still providing a reasonably good cinematic experience, the movie seems to miss opportunities to maximize its ability to frighten audiences. Ultimately, this is a worthwhile horror story that could have been improved with a tighter script, one that concentrated more on the central narrative and thereby increased the suspense for viewers.
