Upon arriving at his recently deceased grandfather’s house, "Nick" (Dan Ewing) finds a partially consumed kangaroo lying on the grass. Shortly after, his brother "Tristan" (Tim Pocock) shows up with a shovel, and they bury the animal, assuming it was taken by a crocodile. “Tristan” is facing a choice regarding the property they’ve inherited: should he allow it to go to the local Aboriginal people or sell it to developers? However, that decision might be made for him by whatever is causing unsettling sounds coming from the nearby woods, particularly as friends arrive for a party and then begin disappearing. The film doesn't offer anything new in its "creature from the black lagoon" style plot, which includes family conflict and some youthful relationships. Still, the final thirty minutes pick up the pace with improved visual effects, a bit of roaring and bloodshed, along with gunfire, flipped vehicles, and elements of traditional storytelling. The story feels somewhat disjointed, and neither the performances nor the script are particularly noteworthy, but the actors are pleasant to look at, and there’s ultimately enough action and mythology to make it worth seeing—just once.
