CinemaSerf on Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback

6/10 · Oct 10, 2025

This installment didn’t resonate with me quite like last year's "Million Dollar Pentagram," as the young detective finds themself investigating a case within the snowy Yatsugatake mountains. A shooting, an avalanche, and an attack on someone working at the nearby astronomical telescope quickly bring police inspector “Kansuke” – who also lived through that dangerous snowfall, now with only one eye – to the location to figure out what’s happening in this remote and untouched landscape. Throughout it all, the keenly observant "Conan" is gathering information, making deductions, and considering possibilities from a small stature that grants them unrestricted access to the area. As the inquiry progresses, there appear to be an increasing number of police forces and government organizations involved, suggesting widespread intrigue! For me, there wasn't sufficient focus on “Conan”; there are too many individuals for the audience to keep track of, and the plot itself felt a bit tangled, particularly given the somewhat disappointing animated finale. It also feels like it runs about thirty minutes longer than necessary, which contributed to the uneven tempo I noticed frequently. Perhaps in future installments, they could dial back the action sequences and instead highlight the detective aspects for our brave sleuth facing off against a formidable villain.
