I wasn’t expecting very much from *Despicable Me*, but I ended up really enjoying it! Steve Carrell gives a great performance in this genuinely funny and heartwarming movie that feels unlike many other films aimed at children, with its unique story, characters you can't help but love, and skillful direction. It's become one of my three-year-old’s go-to choices, and I must have watched it close to a hundred times—it still holds up well. The voice acting is as amusing as it could be, and the Minions are an incredibly clever addition that always elicit a "so cute!" reaction from my daughter whenever they appear on screen. What starts out as an animated caper evolves into something more meaningful when three little girls begin to soften the heart of the villain Gru, showing his transformation from a solitary criminal to a loving dad. *Despicable Me* manages to be both laugh-out-loud funny and surprisingly touching; its originality and memorable characters have made it my top pick for animated movies.
