This latest entry in the *’Despicable Me'* series is straightforward, without any extra flourishes. The beginning of *'Despicable Me 3'* was decent; I got a few laughs out of it. But after about thirty minutes, the film just sort of fizzles and becomes an unremarkable ninety-minute experience. The voice actors do okay, but the characters themselves aren’t particularly engaging. Steve Carell and Trey Parker give good performances, as does Kristen Wiig, though she doesn't get enough to do. Jenny Slate’s character felt like an afterthought; it seemed like there was something intended with Valerie Da Vinci at first, but I honestly can’t remember what became of her—it’s disappointing because my initial thoughts about the character were favorable. The Minions are acceptable, not as amusing as they once were, though there are still a few moments of mild entertainment. I wasn't keen on introducing Gru's brother either. Pharrell Williams’ music feels repetitive and like it’s been done before. It isn't quite like 'Happy' anymore—though thankfully we only have two years until *'Despicable Me 4'*!
