It’s important to acknowledge upfront that Humphrey Bogart isn’t involved, and some viewers will likely dislike the film simply for that reason...and I understand why. Those of us with similar tastes might also find fault because it's a remake…which is also a reasonable complaint. However, if you can move past those initial reservations, it emerges as a genuinely enjoyable thriller—a very typical example of late 1980s and early 1990s thrillers, complete with all the imperfections common to films from that period. From an artistic standpoint, it feels like a standard 1980s thriller shot using 1990s techniques; neither particularly impressive nor awful, just average in both regards. Despite this, it’s easy to get caught up in watching it—it's engaging and exciting enough to keep you pleased throughout...so I’d give it a 10-star rating. As far as I am concerned, if a movie provides entertainment, then it has succeeded in its purpose. It was enjoyable and entertaining.
