Wesley Snipes portraying Simon Phoenix was placed in cryogenic suspension back in 1996 due to serious offenses; likewise, the police officer who took him into custody, Sly Stallone, also faced consequences, resulting in the loss of thirty innocent lives. Thirty-five years later, upon his revival for a parole review, Snipes finds that the area he once knew has transformed into an orderly society devoid of crime, orchestrated by Sir Nigel Hawthorne as Dr. Cocteau. The inhabitants lack the means to effectively respond to the havoc Phoenix is capable of unleashing. The solution? They revive Sly as John Spartan, and alongside Sandra Bullock playing Lenina, they begin pursuing and attempting to halt the unfolding chaos. There are some surprises—things aren’t what they appear to be in this seemingly tranquil, lawful environment—and Snipes delivers a noteworthy performance, clearly aware of the character he's playing with his styled blonde hair as the villain, although the script is noticeably weak and the film often feels uninspired throughout its nearly two-hour runtime.
