The premise involves two people working together to confront supernatural forces. This film draws from actual events; a New York police officer’s experiences with inexplicable occurrences served as the basis for what we see onscreen. I believe it's somewhat overlooked, and not because of its connection to reality, but rather in terms of how entertaining it is. From start to finish, I found myself engaged. While it doesn’t rely on jump scares typical of horror films, it stays true to the genre by presenting a solid narrative. The writing and direction were good; it's a film I nearly overlooked, but now I happily recommend it. Still, it’s only slightly above average, though definitely worth seeing. The plot centers on an officer who encounters several odd happenings that also affect his history. He spends most of the time attempting to locate one individual in particular—a painter seen throughout the city. When he and his partner eventually find this strange man, it's already too late. One of them is hurt, and the other tries everything possible, joining forces with a priest to battle the demon plaguing the city. The film concludes with an intriguing development, suggesting that a sequel featuring the pair continuing their fight against evil would be welcome. It reminded me of a television series I’m currently watching called 'Outcast,' as they share a similar theme. This movie came before, but both are alike because of the unusual partnership between people from different backgrounds. The series feels like an extension or perhaps inspiration drawn from this original story. Eric Bana isn't universally admired, but his films tend to be enjoyable, and he delivers a strong performance here. The supporting cast is also good; Edgar Ramirez especially stood out as the priest. I hope you find it interesting, too—it might even exceed that for some viewers, so all I can say is approach it with modest expectations. _6.5/10_
