Jean Dujardin seems perfectly suited for his part, conveying the impression that he’s been performing this kind of role for years. By “this,” I am referring to a strange undertaking that threatens to consume him and disrupt his connections with those around him. And when I say "those around him," I mean the unfortunate community Georges visits after purchasing an old jacket crafted entirely from deerskin—an acquisition that fuels his fixation, prompting both amusement from viewers while also exposing the unsettling, fundamental nature of obsessive behavior rooted in sadness, isolation, and a deep-seated hostility toward others. It’s difficult to articulate how intensely *Le daim* (Deerskin) escalates as Georges cheerfully manipulates events to further his deerskin jacket obsession—a garment he himself deems “killer style.” Whether it's the excessive amount of money spent on the used jacket, a newly acquired talent for filming videos, or confusing a film editor with someone who is owed money, the script ensures that you’ll find something humorous roughly every five minutes. The absurd storyline, enhanced by excellent acting from Dujardin and Adele Haenel (who communicates volumes through her expressions alone), along with Quentin Dupieux's unusual narrative approach—where scenes unfold in a delayed fashion, shown later on—makes this comedy crime drama an incredibly entertaining experience.
