Treat Williams takes on a role in this film after being brought aboard by the questionable Hanover (Wes Studi), and quickly becomes part of a situation involving the unlawful seizure of what seems to be a dilapidated luxury ship. The mystery arises from the absence of any passengers. It turns out that those attempting theft are about to find themselves pursued, leading into an entertaining adventure centered around a sea monster. Like with many movies in this category, I found myself hoping for victory for the creature throughout. The characters, even the ones intended as sympathetic, feel underdeveloped and honestly seemed deserving of whatever unpleasant fate they encountered. There's a good amount of action, explosions, numerous unbelievable situations, and occasional moments of bloodshed, culminating in a predictable resolution. The film maintains some interest due to its respectable production quality, and the constant flow of action makes it fairly engaging, though ultimately unremarkable as a monster movie set at sea, complete with sound effects reminiscent of severe digestive distress.
