It’s possible the premise – that remedies for human diseases could be found within the animal world – has a basis in reality. To pursue this idea, Saffron Burrows ("Susan") secures funding from wealthy benefactor "Russell Franklin" (Samuel L. Jackson) to create an Alzheimer's cure utilizing sharks held at a repurposed offshore submarine refuelling station. Upon arrival, he encounters the unusual team working there, including "Carter" (Thomas Jane), "Preacher" (LL Cool J), and "Jim" (Stellan Skarsgård). He soon realizes that these genetically modified sharks are unhappy about being test subjects and want retribution. The movie moves quickly; some of the special effects are genuinely frightening, but a significant problem arises from the fact that if the sharks are meant to be highly intelligent, why would they consent to appear in a film featuring Burrows’s stiff acting – there are pieces of debris in this film less lifeless than her portrayal. Jane and LL Cool J manage to find some enjoyment as they attempt to escape their dangerous adversaries, and while it's obviously not "Jaws," it isn't completely awful either.
