Having been sidelined by a bad cold and looking for something to watch, I was interested to see why it took so long to remake this film—four years, apparently. It seems the reason might be that a completely different group of people were involved in creating this slightly improved version, which feels like a mix of "Conan" and "Barbie." In this telling, the main character (John Terlesky) becomes romantically involved with “Reena the Seer,” also called “Princess Evie” (Monique Gabrielle), and after several escapades, they join forces to fight against the villainous sorcerer "Jarek" (John Lazar), as well as a similarly wicked and agile duplicate of herself, so she can regain her rightful position. Like the original film, there are moments where it feels close to being soft-core; Terlesky’s clothes barely stay on, while all the women's outfits seem to be blown away by the wind. The storyline is practically identical to that of the earlier movie for this hero, and the ending is the same as well—I wouldn’t have been shocked if they had simply made minor adjustments to what was already considered the script. To give Terlesky some credit, he seems to possess a bit more appeal; it's almost like he's aware of how bad things are and that he’s also getting paid for it. Gabrielle seems to be in on the joke too, but as an actress, she isn't particularly good. The movie includes pirates and Amazons to keep things moving along, and as a sword-and-sorcery adventure, it manages to fill 90 minutes—but I don’t want to watch it again.
