What an exceptional mystery! It’s hard to imagine how they managed to assemble such a remarkable group of performers without it feeling like some artificial gathering of prominent actors. Mia Farrow, Jane Birkin, Angela Lansbury who truly steals every scene she's in, George Kennedy, Maggie Smith, and the unforgettable Bette Davis all appear as potential culprits when the extremely rich Lois Chiles turns up dead inside her cabin on a lavish cruise along the Nile River. Fortunately, Peter Ustinov and David Niven are present to sort out this puzzling crime. As the story unfolds, you begin to understand just how unpleasant and awful the deceased woman was – I even felt like wanting to do away with her myself! It's thoroughly enjoyable, enhanced by a wonderful score from Nina Rota that elevates it to being a true gem of a film. I read, with some worry, that Sir Kenneth Branagh is planning a remake for 2020—well!!!
