I wasn't really into Deadpool before, and I still don’t feel that way, but like with other superhero movies, I enjoyed seeing this one. Part of the appeal was getting to see a character who felt fresh compared to what I'm used to. It marked an impressive debut for both Deadpool on film and the director involved. The movie served more as an origin story than a complete narrative. It showed how someone transforms into a mutant, then sets out to get even with those responsible for destroying his former existence. However, there are still some things that need explaining, and I’m hoping they'll be addressed in a future installment. I’m glad Ryan Reynolds got another shot at this kind of role, considering how poorly his previous superhero character was received. While I did like the film, there are so many superheroes around these days that Deadpool doesn’t even make my top five. It's good to see him become part of the 'X-Men' universe because I never cared for the original 'X-Men' movies or their characters, but I do appreciate the 'Wolverine' spin-offs. I’ll be looking forward to his individual films, similar to what they did with 'Wolverine'. The film achieved some milestones, like becoming the highest-grossing 'X-Men' movie so far. The story unfolded through a combination of present-day scenes and flashbacks that alternated on screen. It was definitely one of the most mature superhero movies I’ve seen, and there were numerous references to other films. While I don't want to dismiss those who enjoyed it – or will enjoy it – I feel it has been celebrated a little too much. 6½/10
