This movie feels geared toward die-hard Marvel enthusiasts. A useful exercise for franchise films is stripping away the established intellectual property and characters—seeing if the story and character arcs hold up independently, without relying on the IP’s built-in appeal. In this case, taking away those elements leaves you with nothing at all. Those familiar with earlier installments in this Marvel universe will find a lot of nods to fans. I haven't seen many of these films myself; my experience is limited to the first two Deadpool movies, which I enjoyed when they came out, particularly the initial one. This third film features numerous cameo appearances that serve no real purpose other than for characters to participate in some sort of ritualistic activity—they don’t contribute anything meaningful to the story. It doesn't even manage a proper exploration of Wolverine's history. The movie is essentially an unrelenting series of arguments and sarcastic remarks, with little opportunity for any pauses or reflection. When it attempts to evoke emotion, those moments fall flat because the priority seems to be delivering jokes. I did find myself laughing occasionally, but not enough to make a significant impression. The antagonist and storyline are quite forgettable, and there's never a sense of real danger—the threat is mostly presented as an on-screen progress bar. While some viewers might appreciate Deadpool’s jabs at the MCU, Disney is fully aware of what's happening, and they’ll be collecting profits as a result. It’s simply a matter of protecting their corporate image.
