The first Dead Snow wasn't terrible; it was decent enough for what it was. However, Dead Snow 2 is a real letdown. It completely gave up on being a genuine horror film and instead tried to be purely comedic…and didn’t succeed at all. The movie feels like Bad Taste but with more money behind it (even if fans try to convince themselves that Bad Taste is a terrible film). It does have a plot that, for this type of movie, actually makes sense—I have to admit that—but one sensible storyline doesn't automatically make something good. There aren’t any truly frightening scenes anywhere in the entire film. There’s plenty of gore, certainly; it’s practically dumped on you from beginning to end. Sadly, a lot of it is so ridiculous that it becomes embarrassing. To make matters worse, they introduce some completely absurd characters. The Zombie Squad is just sad. The Norwegian police officer makes me uncomfortable. And the zombie pet that keeps vomiting? It makes me feel nauseous. This movie consists only of stupid people (and I'm not just talking about the zombies) and tasteless effects piled on top of each other. The sole reason it isn’t rated with zero stars is because there were a couple of moments that got a chuckle out of me, and some of the excessively gory special effects weren't bad from a technical standpoint. As I said, it was a big disappointment. This film will probably only appeal to dedicated fans of the genre or, with its frequent vomiting scenes, poor jokes, and senseless gore, to people who… well, I won’t even go there.
