Kaya (Isabel Gravitt), along with her friends Tessa (Genneya Walton) and Xander (Koa Tom), are stranded at sea, two of them seriously hurt. It’s hard to believe, but a boat appears on the horizon; the captain notices them drifting and comes to their aid. He's an odd character who doesn't seem concerned about his new passengers, even leaving one boy lying on the deck! Soon, the girls are hidden in the cargo hold, and he (Alex Wraith) has made plans to meet a doctor whose motives turn out to be far more dangerous than they anticipated. They’ve stumbled into a people smuggling operation, and now their lives are worth $5k – whether they're alive or not. It falls to resourceful Kaya to find a way to escape and try to get help. While the plot stretches believability at times, the film is fairly gripping for roughly thirty minutes as a tense, shadowy game of cat and mouse unfolds. However, the performances are quite poor, accompanied by some rather ordinary lines and an excessive amount of convenient coincidences. Despite that, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be based on the initial scenes, and there's a period towards the conclusion where it becomes genuinely threatening before things escalate. You probably won’t recall much about it afterward; you might even forget parts while watching – but it isn’t terrible.
