Larenz Tate gives a reasonably engaging performance as Curtis, a young man with promise who gets involved with small-time criminal Kirby (Keith David) before joining the US Marines for service in Vietnam. Following his deployment, he comes back to Juanita, his girlfriend, and their four year old daughter, but adjusting to civilian life proves too much, pushing him to reconnect with former military companions for a risky armoured car robbery. The narrative follows a predictable path, and the performers aren't given much to work with due to the weak writing—it doesn’t do enough to flesh out any of the characters—and the generally uninspired filmmaking. There was a chance to explore the psychological effects of war and the isolation experienced by many soldiers returning home from combat; however, that aspect isn't really explored here. While the cinematography occasionally has merit, and the conclusion is energetic, ultimately this film feels overly reliant on clichés and a worn-out storyline that drags on for too long and fails to deliver as much as it should.
