Following his time serving in the British Paratroop Regiment, a soldier named Richard (Paddy Considine) goes back to his hometown in Derbyshire with one goal: retribution for his younger brother. Toby Kebbell portrays the sibling, who had learning difficulties and was often targeted by bullying from Sonny (Gary Stretch) and his friends. A particular incident escalated beyond control, sparking Richard’s desire for revenge, which he carefully orchestrates using methods similar to those of his intended victims. The film largely avoids spoken exchanges, instead concentrating on a psychological battle between the protagonist and his targets. It's essentially a pursuit where he is visible, and they are aware of his intentions; as his schemes begin to succeed, their fear and desperation become increasingly apparent. A distinctive element of this thriller is the evident guilt Richard carries regarding his brother, whose reliance on him began in childhood—a detail revealed through flashbacks. While harsh and violent, the film also demonstrates a cunning and unsettling level of planning, questioning conventional ideas about what it means to be a man. The cinematography occasionally places the viewer uncomfortably close to the action, which unfolds in an unexpected way, illustrating how bullies operate and how their personalities can compel others to participate, even when they disagree. It's not a comfortable film to watch, but Considine delivers a powerful performance, and it serves as a stark criticism of human cruelty.
