It’s easy to picture how this film came about; I bet Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan were sitting around, looking for something to do, and thought, "Let's put together a low-budget movie—a sort of throwback to classic film noir, and we can get some friends involved." Someone suggested including Ash, Phil D was likely available, and Brenda wasn’t busy with “Vera,” so she got brought in too. They managed to scrape together enough money from a local charity event, and then they were off to shoot it. The plot revolves around Tamer wanting to play "Nick," who is indebted to a loan shark for £100,000. Unless he pays up quickly, his mother (Brenda Blethyn) faces danger at the hands of Phil Daniels, an older enforcer with a habit of taking people hostage. Nick teams up with his best friend "Bing" (Dyer) to try and raise the money needed to save his mom, who uses a wheelchair. Do you see where this is going? Surprisingly, it’s not awful. The performances are flat, and the dialogue feels like it was lifted from a children's book of silly crime stories, but there’s some humor and charm to be found, and it delivers exactly what it promises. If your expectations aren’t high and you just relax into it, you’ll get precisely what you anticipate: ninety minutes of predictable but reasonably paced drama set in East London.
