The sequel felt like a failure right from the start. If the initial installment already appeared low-budget and prioritized quantity over quality, this one sinks even lower. Both films cater to a specific audience seeking straightforward action movies—not the kind of polished, universally appealing cinema most people enjoy. However, I’m not convinced it even manages to satisfy that intended audience. The issues begin with a poorly written script and underdeveloped characters. After abandoning his service to the Devil, Guerrero—essentially a version of Ghost Rider without the fire and bones—is now immortal and dispensing justice. This time, he must protect an enigmatic relic from Jackson Boomer, a former Confederate colonel determined to unleash evil and willing to threaten Guerrero's daughter to get it. Beyond numerous historical inaccuracies that would likely infuriate any American history teacher, the film relies on tired tropes, making it both tedious and somewhat ridiculous. The action is so relentless that it feels like an extended video game experience, preventing any genuine emotional connection. While the protagonist seems directionless, safeguarding a relic without any discernible purpose or religious foundation, the antagonist fares even worse: I've noticed before that using Confederate uniforms for villains can be effective (“The Hateful Eight,” for example), but has the significance of good and bad people fighting on both sides during conflicts been entirely forgotten? Danny Trejo doesn’t bring anything new to the table compared to his performance in the first film. He isn't a terrible action actor, but he struggles with sentimentality, particularly when interacting with Elysia Rotaru, who portrays the hero's attractive and capable daughter. Jake Busey also fails to make an impact, never feeling like a credible threat despite his efforts, and Elizabeth Lavender is largely relegated to the sidelines. Like its predecessor, this film relies heavily on constant action sequences, bordering on a rock movie or video game due to the overwhelming noise and subpar presentation. It’s a disappointing production that would have been better off unreleased.
