I decided to check this one out after seeing Richard Linklater’s ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’, mainly because I enjoyed that movie and heard this was meant to be a kind of follow-up. That's honestly why I gave it a shot. I generally like older teen movies from the eighties and nineties; they just aren't made the same way anymore. The film comes from right before my generation’s time, but I feel a real connection to that era, so I found it very familiar and really enjoyed watching it. The movie centers around the last day of high school. It starts in the afternoon during the final class and then moves into the evening, where the seniors planned a party that falls apart when their parents find out about it. There’s this tradition between the freshmen and the older students, and some try to sneak away. Those who get caught have a hard time getting free. Not everyone sees it as a bad thing; for some, it becomes one of the best nights of high school. The rest of the film reveals what happens to each person and how their night unfolds. It's amazing to see so many actors who are now well-known in this movie from 23 years ago, like Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Ben Affleck, and others. While the film doesn’t really focus on any one character specifically, it maintains a neutral perspective throughout. It tells the story of that final day of high school through the experiences of different people and what they want to get out of it. You don't need to be young to appreciate it; I think it will appeal to just about anyone. I’d recommend checking this one out, especially before watching ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’. _7/10_
