This vampire movie isn’t exactly a triumph, yet it manages to be enjoyable with a surprising element near its close. Vampire stories aren't typically my thing—I tend to prefer older slasher films like *Halloween* and *Friday the 13th*, for example—but this one wasn’t awful, even though there were moments of really poor CGI blood effects. It was certainly boosted by Willem Dafoe’s presence; I would have liked him to play the lead role, although Hawke didn't do a bad job.
