A man named “Jim” (Paul Birch), once in the navy, and his daughter “Lori” (Louise Maddison) prepare to wait out the consequences of a nuclear event when two strangers appear at their home. Jim wants to avoid contact because they don’t have much to spare, but Lori, who seems inclined toward rash actions, lets "Tony" (Mike Connors) and his girlfriend "Ruby" (Adele Jergens) inside. It becomes clear that Tony is involved in criminal activity, Ruby is his companion, and he has a tendency to look at other women. Then “Rick” (Richard Denning) arrives with an injured man who desperately wants some meat! There’s a small comfort in the fact that the radiation levels seem to be decreasing, but Lori—when she isn't dealing with Tony’s unwanted advances—begins hearing a voice; it seems like something is attempting to get in touch with her. It feels as though perhaps it’s the spirit of whoever wrote the screenplay, because there’s just so much of it, and that really slows things down. The narrative presents a rather unflattering depiction of humanity, which appears to be intentional. It's difficult to understand why Tony and his elaborately dressed girlfriend would have been anywhere near this isolated house on a lake. The ending, though predictable, only reinforced my initial impression of Lori—a character lacking in appeal who is also quite spontaneous. This isn’t really science fiction; it’s more like a cheaply made romantic thriller that you won't recall having seen.
