Day Shift proved to be an unexpectedly enjoyable film this year! While it doesn’t break new ground – the story follows a predictable path, and the characters aren't particularly deep – the effort put into the action sequences, the limited use of computer graphics, and the exceptional cinematography (by Toby Oliver) create a highly entertaining vampire movie, brimming with excitement, occasionally to an excessive degree. It’s easily one of the better films in the genre over the past ten years. Jamie Foxx does a decent job as the tough-guy lead in J. J. Perry's directorial debut. The former stuntman performs so effectively that he has the potential to become a notable director within action cinema. It’s a good choice for a casual movie night with loved ones. Rating: B-
