My initial worries about this film didn't entirely pan out, as it’s somewhat saved by some truly impressive underwater visuals and a reasonably decent ending. Halle Berry portrays a diver who is drawn into taking a condescending, rich Englishman and his child on a shark-swimming excursion with the help of her complicated romantic partner, Olivier Martinez. The narrative itself suffers from being weak, foreseeable, and progressing at an unhurried pace. A significant portion of the suspense doesn't come from the sharks themselves, but rather from the unpleasant millionaire Brit, his son, and the leads’ repetitive romantic tension. It seems Berry has a past connection with sharks that led to a close call with death. The shark footage would have been compelling enough for a documentary about top predators; frankly, the storyline should have been discarded from the start.
