It’s an uplifting story based on real events about pursuing ambitions that others don't believe in. The film takes the bold step of challenging established Indian customs and biases against women. Two sisters manage to conquer significant challenges to achieve international recognition as wrestlers, thanks to their father’s guidance and encouragement who also served as their trainer. It's a vibrant, skillfully produced piece of enjoyable entertainment. The performances are decent, and the characters feel familiar. However, its length is excessive for a standard movie viewing; it would have been better suited as a limited series. Setting aside the troubling training methods: I must state that I find issue with many of the techniques the father employed to build his daughters’ strength and resilience. A considerable amount of what he did constitutes genuine child abuse. Their mother also portrays the stereotypical figure who enables this behavior. What's worse, the film minimizes and makes light of the emotional distress experienced by the daughters, acting as if it caused no harm. In Europe, the father’s actions would likely result in legal consequences and removal of the children by social services. I believe there’s a fundamental error in celebrating abusive behavior, but perhaps Indian society still needs to understand that children can be motivated without resorting to abuse.
