You certainly know how to exploit vulnerability, don't you? Sly Stallone portrays an FBI agent who finds solace in alcohol after his girlfriend is killed by a disturbed serial killer preying on police officers. Devastated by the loss, he’s pressured into entering a rehabilitation program at a secluded facility, only to discover that the killer remains nearby. Famously held back from release for a considerable period, D-Tox feels like an unresolved mark on Stallone's filmography. It functions adequately as a standard thriller, but its reliance on familiar elements and, frankly, its lack of intelligence make it difficult to wholeheartedly endorse. The movie will likely remind you of other thrillers you’ve seen; essentially, it combines aspects of "10 Little Indians," "The Thing," and "Seven." The initial portion is well-crafted, depicting the agent's emotional turmoil, his struggle with alcohol, and his placement within a stark, imposing institution. His fellow patients are all troubled officers seeking recovery, which initially creates opportunities for compelling character development. However, it ultimately collapses into predictable tropes, squandering what could have been a strong ensemble cast – Stallone himself transitions from a convincing portrayal of anguish to a stereotypical action hero with a firearm. Such is life! A consistently unsettling atmosphere and some genuinely shocking deaths maintain a degree of engagement, but the film's adherence to established conventions ultimately reduces a potentially intriguing thriller to something unremarkable. 5/10
