A Customs agent played by Stephen Baldwin infiltrates a skydiving group in Miami as part of an operation to stop drug trafficking. The team is led by a commanding figure with questionable ethics (Tom Berenger) and includes a somewhat unsettling second-in-command portrayed by Dennis Rodman. Maxine Bahns, Ron Silver, and Casper Van Dien also appear in the film. "Cutaway," released in 2000, is a crime thriller centered on skydiving that had a $9 million budget. It initially aired on television in the United States before being distributed directly to video internationally. The movie includes impressive scenes of people jumping from planes, though some of the visuals are clearly borrowed from other sources. Aircraft appear frequently, but their sole purpose is transportation. For those seeking skydiving thrills, "Cutaway" provides them. It’s enjoyable because Baldwin portrays a character that's easy to root for and Berenger brings his usual intensity to the role. I wasn’t particularly impressed by Maxine Bahns’ performance as the female lead, but she was adequate. Cat Stone has a brief appearance that is visually striking. Casper Van Dien’s part isn’t large, but it changed my opinion of him; I previously considered him just another handsome face, but he's quite impressive here. The movie lasts 1 hour and 44 minutes and was filmed in the Miami region of Florida (specifically Miami-Dade County & Opa Locka), as well as Fort Bragg, North Carolina. GRADE: B-
