The museum is in trouble, so eager "Ted" pledges to his employer that he'll put on his distinctive hat and journey to Africa to recover an idol guaranteed to rescue the institution. The owner’s son, who favors selling the land for parking, can’t stop him. Following some scenes reminiscent of “Indiana Jones,” Ted gets what he wants—though it turns out to be quite small. During his return trip, he realizes he's not alone, as a vibrant monkey has stowed away. Dubbed "George," this creature is playful and energetic, leading his companion on numerous silly escapades while they attempt to return home and possibly rescue the museum. There’s really nothing wrong with it; it’s a straightforward tale of friendship and faithfulness, filled with some comical stunts that would fit right in alongside Buster Keaton's work. The animation style, characterized by large eyes and cheerful expressions, moves swiftly and is accompanied by Jack Johnson music to capture the film’s tone. I felt the African portion was over rather quickly; there were more opportunities for humorous discoveries, but it still offers plenty for children and adults alike. It seems "Ted" would have made a good Mountie as well! Just relax and enjoy yourself—don't analyze it too much.
