Reno on Cuban Fury

7/10 · Jan 14, 2017

I wasn’t aware this movie existed until I saw its poster, which gave me vibes similar to 'This Means War'. It's comparable in some ways, but instead of focusing on spies, the story revolves around salsa dancing. The plot centers on an ordinary man who abandoned salsa as a child and rediscovers his passion for it after developing feelings for his new boss, who is enthusiastic about salsa. However, he faces competition from a colleague who tries to keep him away from her. Now, he needs to demonstrate not only his worthiness in matters of the heart but also his renewed dedication to salsa. The film was unexpectedly enjoyable. While there’s a romantic element, it's primarily a movie about music and dance. The romance isn't the main focus; it plays a smaller role. It proved to be somewhat entertaining, though I felt the storyline became overly sentimental when dealing with rekindling a passion that had been dormant for years. If you appreciate salsa, you may find something to like in this film, but it doesn’t resemble typical Hollywood dance movies. The most significant parts of the narrative unfold during the second half, and the ending was notably stronger, providing a satisfying resolution. It's worth watching once, purely for entertainment purposes. _6.5/10_
