The film presents a situation of intense, conflicting emotions—a place where deep affection and profound dislike coexist within the same person, someone you’d readily sacrifice everything for but also harbor considerable animosity toward. **Crooked House** (2017) offers a deliberately paced take on Agatha Christie's most complex novel. A private investigator named Charles is asked by Sophia, a woman he once had feelings for, to find out who killed her grandfather. As the investigation unfolds, unexpected developments lead to a surprising resolution. My initial viewing of this film some time ago left me quite struck by its final moments, and that remains one of the movie's greatest strengths. The narrative does move at a measured pace, occasionally feeling somewhat tedious, which can make it easy to lose focus. Nevertheless, the impact of the ending overshadows any earlier shortcomings. The acting is excellent across the board; the female performers were particularly memorable. If the story itself had been more engaging, this could have been an outstanding adaptation. I found myself moved to tears by the conclusion, a contrast to my reaction on a previous viewing. However, I can see why I chose to revisit *Crooked House*. The ending has stayed with me since I first experienced it.
