This fourth installment in the *Critters* series turned out to be disappointing. I will say that I recognize the filmmakers tried an unusual approach, but it didn’t really work for me. A primary issue is how focused it is on the human characters; the critters themselves aren't present enough, and the initial fifteen minutes of the ninety-minute runtime pass without them appearing at all – which is a significant problem. The story involving the humans isn’t particularly engaging either. It follows a predictable formula with a group of astronauts on a mission, some good, some bad… you can pretty much guess where things are going. The visuals depicting space also don't quite convince, although the critters themselves look fine. What stands out most about this 1992 film is the cast. Angela Bassett makes an appearance in one of her earlier roles, and she, along with Brad Dourif, were the only performers I found myself invested in... and that’s likely just because of their other work; they're both good though. It’s remarkable to think that this series includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Angela Bassett among its former cast members. Don Keith Opper and Terrence Mann also return for these films, with Mann being the stronger performer this time around. I understand that *Critters Attack!* from 2019 was seen as a revival of the franchise...
