Critters 2: The Main Course delivers what you’d expect from a sequel—essentially more of the same, and that's perfectly acceptable for this kind of movie. I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, but it holds up well; if you enjoyed the initial film, I doubt this one will let you down. I did have positive things to say about the first one, so that probably explains my reaction. Scott Grimes was a highlight in the earlier film, and while he's still central here, his role feels less prominent as it’s more of an ensemble effort. Liane Alexandra Curtis performs admirably, and Barry Corbin steps in for M. Emmet Walsh to good effect. There aren’t any problems with the acting performances, that much is clear. I appreciate that this installment gives us a greater focus on the Critters themselves, which was something I hoped for. The special effects remain impressive, just as they were before, and I still find myself amused by their little vocalizations, particularly those “uh ohs.” There’s also more gore and nudity compared to the first film. Now I'm curious to see if they could pull it off again with the third movie, which marks a notable actor’s introduction to Hollywood films.
