Among the numerous films by Saura that I’ve had the pleasure of watching, this one stands out as my absolute favorite; it shares that distinction with 'The Spirit of the Beehive,' which are the two Spanish movies I hold dearest (I don't consider Bunuel's works to be truly Spanish, even though they focus on Spain, given his status as an exile). It’s a strange thing, but both films showcase what I believe to be the most remarkable performances by child actors that exist, all thanks to Ana Torrent. While I appreciate Chaplin’s work with Robert Altman, I feel her acting for her spouse represents the high point of her career, at least based on what I've witnessed so far.
