This disturbing film, based on a novel by Yutaka Maekawa, presents itself as a psychological thriller incorporating elements of mystery and horror as a detective investigates some baffling killings. The acting is quite good, particularly Teruyuki Kagawa’s work, but certain choices made with the characters seem strange and ultimately disappointing to the audience. Even so, Creepy manages to convey an uncomfortable sense of unease regarding faith, inquisitiveness, and the potential threats lurking within everyday communities.
