Though not the strongest entry in the franchise, Creed III manages to inject fresh energy and imagination into the series. The Rocky/Creed movies are at their finest when the antagonist is as compelling, or even more so, than the hero, and this is particularly clear in Creed III. Damien Anderson, portrayed skillfully by Jonathan Majors, proves to be a sympathetic adversary with a significant link to Adonis Creed’s history. This connection drives the central conflict as Creed attempts to confront past errors while staying true to who he is now. The interplay between these two aspects develops Creed's character both as a boxer and as an individual. I found myself thoroughly enjoying this narrative, and even though it may not present the most original screenplay seen recently, it does enough to set itself apart from other Rocky films, something I can certainly appreciate. The performances in this film are outstanding, consistent with previous Creed installments. I initially worried that Sylvester Stallone’s absence might be felt, but honestly, it barely registered. Michael B. Jordan elicits strong work from the entire ensemble, and everyone shines. Tessa Thompson is wonderful; her rapport with Jordan is remarkable. The introduction of their daughter adds a heartwarming family element to the story. Jonathan Majors delivers an exceptional performance; he’s intimidating, heartbreaking, and conveys emotions that genuinely connect with audiences. His anger feels warranted, and his depiction of this young man whose life was unfairly taken is incredibly authentic. He stood out as one of the film's greatest strengths. With Michael B. Jordan directing, this installment boasts the most distinctive cinematography in the entire series. Jordan takes some creative risks to offer a contemporary perspective on the boxing genre. Where earlier films aimed for a broadcast feel rooted in realism and grit, Creed III reverses that approach, presenting the most visually impressive action sequences I’ve ever witnessed. The influence of anime is noticeable, with slow motion used judiciously but effectively. The final fight incorporates some inventive choices that forge an intimate bond between the two leads, providing a powerful backdrop for both the match and the larger story. I had a genuinely great experience watching Creed III. Michael B. Jordan made a superb directorial debut, crafting a film that left me feeling very pleased. Score: 92% | Verdict: Excellent
